Opening reception: Friday, October 10th, 2014, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Exhibition: October 10th – November 5 th, 2014
On Friday, October 10th, Flower Pepper Gallery is pleased to present The Brave Ones, a collection of works focusing on the relationship between humans and the companion animals held dear to our hearts. “When I look into the eyes of an animal I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul,” says Anthony Douglas Williams. For this exhibition, a group of over 40 masterful and fantastic artists were invited to create pieces inspired by our loyal animal comrades. The Brave Ones artist, Vanessa Foley, says “My piece is called Alba and I chose this particular bird for the show because of the unusual attachment and devotion that they develop towards their caregiver, and I have attempted to illustrate that his captivity is of his choosing and that the prospect of release would cause him alarm.”
This exhibition is also aimed at increasing awareness for the many courageous and loving animals that have endured neglected, abandonment, or abuse, and to inspire positive change. Nathan Anderson, contributing artist to The Brave Ones, says, “I did a colored pencil/gold leaf portrait of Benji the dog. The character was a favorite of mine and truly has one of the all time rescue dog stories. The whole Benji story is a complete rags to riches that is filled with so much heart.” Benji is the story of a stray dog who rescues a pair of kidnapped children and is adopted by a loving family. The original Benji was adopted from a shelter and resulted in over one million adoptions nationwide.
10% of the proceeds from The Brave Ones will be donated to Downtown Dog Rescue.
Please join us on Friday, October 10th, 2014 at Flower Pepper Gallery to pay tribute to a bond between animals and humans that is age-old and constant.
The reception is open to the public and on view until November 5th, 2014. For purchase inquiries, or to request a VIP preview please email firstname.lastname@example.org
